We heard earlier this morning that there was a "mystery team" involved in the Peyton Manning sweepstakes and I brushed it off as agent-driven info, trying to drive the price up on his latest contract (which is, per the Denver Post, going to be around $60 million over five years with $30 million guaranteed).
Manning also threw the ball at Duke’s athletic fields Friday afternoon for the Broncos. He was seen leaving the Blue Devils’ indoor practice facility wearing blue shorts, a gray T-shirt and no helmet heading to the outdoor practice field followed by Denver executive John and Coach John Fox.
This is news I didn't expect. The 49ers, like the Kansas City Chiefs, make a ton of sense for Manning. In fact, I think the 49ers are the only team that makes more sense for Manning than the Chiefs.
As the Arizona Cardinals appear more and more like they will be out of the running for the services of Peyton Manning, a new team -- NFC West rivals San Francisco 49ers -- have suddenly jumped into the picture. The Cardinals have until 1PM Arizona time to make a decision about Kevin Kolb's $7 million bonus and that deadline is fast approaching.
Apparently, not. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh worked out Manning this week. Manning also went through a physical.
The LA Times reports that Manning phoned the Dolphins on Thursday to advise them he’ll sign elsewhere. The team has now turned its attention to free agent quarterback Matt Flynn. The Cardinals also seemed to be out of the running on Friday, opting to pay quarterback Kevin Kolb a $7-million roster bonus he is due on Saturday.
